1. Why is the automated archive a really useful thing?

An automated archive can do a lot of things other archives and archivists cannot. It can send stories to a mailing list. The software writes text files into HTML, and stories are immediately available after they are submitted through the posting interface. It's highly searchable, and authors can upload their stories exactly the way they want to see them.

Some good examples of how automated archives work can be found at: 852 Prospect, an adult and slash Sentinel archive; the due South Fiction Archive; the Leviathan Archive for Farscape fiction; the Smallville Slash Archive; and the Buffy Fanfiction Archive.
